2020[Delta]

Dear parents/homestay parents of international elementary students:

First, I hope you and your family members are keeping safe and healthy during this difficult time.  That is, of course, our main concern right now.  Naturally I and my International Programs colleagues are sad that we cannot meet your children at their schools, face to face, during Term 3, but I wanted to let you know that we will continue to connect with them and monitor their progress as best we can, given the current situation.

During this past week I have been contacting elementary classroom teachers and learning support teachers to update them on their international student(s) contact information.  If your child has not yet received a telephone call or email from their classroom teacher please contact me right away.  Teachers may not have the most up-to-date student information so I want to be sure to get the correct information to them.

After teachers make initial contact with their students, they will gradually begin sending assignments via email or inviting students into online classrooms to participate in digital learning activities.  Please note that this type of lesson delivery is new for many of Delta’s teachers so the rollout will take some time.  Teachers are currently doing research, attending online workshops and webinars, meeting virtually with other teachers and administrators, and in general working very hard to learn new ways of engaging their students.  They are deciding which method(s) will work best for each of them.  Please be patient as teachers learn how they can meet the needs of all of their students at this time.  Also, a reminder about the Ministry of Education’s suggested time allotment end goal for teachers’ remote learning lessons for students, based on grade level:

K-1 Up to 1 hour per day (K-1학년 , 하루 한시간)

2-3 Up to 90 minutes per day (2-3학년, 하루 90분)

4-7 Up to 2 hours per day (4-7학년 하루 2시간)

I know students and parents might be feeling anxious, worried or bored right now so I have compiled a list of digital resources that might be helpful to you and your children during this time.  Please check them out:
