2020[Comox Valley] COVID -19 Update 9월학기 수업관련

Dear partners in education,

As you are aware the situation with COVID 19 is continually changing. The intent of these updates is to give you the latest information as we have it but being aware that any information I give you today could change tomorrow. I apologize for this constantly changing situation but we do want to be as transparent as possible. The plan for our District is to move to stage 1 (full classes, no online component) as soon as possible, but it is likely that there will be some kind of a hybrid model in place to start the school year for the sake of safety around COVID-19 (still with contact every day at school)  We anticipate some school sports like rugby, basketball, and volleyball will likely be affected, also, though many others like skiing/snowboarding, tennis, golf and sailing will continue as before.

As of today, all students who enter the country must have a valid study permit, issued prior to March 18 of this year. This applies to our short term students as well.

Also, I would like to point out the following IRCC (Government of Canada) document that states:

“If you’re an international student who has a valid study permit, or were approved for a study permit on or before March 18, 2020, you’re exempt from the travel restrictions.”

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/coronavirus-covid19/visitors-foreign-workers-students.html#restrictions-students

The above excerpt means that an approval letter that was granted after March 18th may not qualify for entry into Canada, and though we are hopeful that the language around this changes over the next month or so, in the event that the restrictions remain in place, we would like to present options to our partners and families overseas.

Firstly, deferral to semester two or to September, 2021 are both viable options for students, and we would not charge additional fees to simply move a student to a different start date. Secondly, we can certainly offer refunds to families who are concerned about the uncertainty around the above noted restrictions.  Either way, we are requesting that families who are committed to moving forward with their applications for September, 2020 that we receive payment in full by July 31, so that we may place students in homestays and classes appropriate to their educational plan.  Our refund policy around this will allow a full refund minus the application fee for all families, which we hope will give them the confidence to apply for their study abroad experience here.

In August, we will be sending each student a package that they should be presenting to Canada Customs upon arrival. We ask that all agents send us a copy of your approval letters that you have received from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada so that we can include these in each of your students packages in August.

Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any specific questions but we do not have any control over the acceptance of students in our immigration system. Please also review the above link in detail.

As of July 1, the IRCC is resuming processing of online applications for travel/study visas, but travel restrictions remain. Please also review this information: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/news/notices/ircc-resumes-processing-1-july-2020.html

Thank you all and we wish you well in these trying times.

Sincerely-

Greg Kochanuk
